And the Truth Sets You Free

One cannot be born into this world without life giving us wounds. Sometimes those wounds leave a residue that we can’t seem to brush off. The residue isn’t so obvious to us because it can seem invisible to the outside, but the truth is the residue, the lies, shape everything. We have a choice that’s often invisible too—brush it off, clean up and start anew.

The pain we endure, the wrongs, the rapes, the burns will undoubtedly shape our thoughts, our choices and our expectations of ourselves and others. In fact, they will even wire our brains if we don’t get the help we need. Certainly we can live a mediocre life, in constant captivity to the lies that form our now and our future. But, then again, there’s Jesus, wonderful Jesus, that defeated every evil known to man.

The Bible says, “He came to set the captives free.”  Still there are many that do not access this freedom and others who would say, “You are weak.” Sometimes the lies are the truth, and in this case it is. We are weak and in need of a Savior that will tell us the truth. And, although we may not like everything Jesus said, He certainly was a truth teller. He didn’t try to tickle the ears to give people what they wanted, but rather what they needed.

The world we live in today isn’t so different from the evil happening in biblical times. Murders, sacrifices, witchcraft, demonization, hatred, envy, stealing, cheating, adultery and fornication were all rampant throughout the land.

In every evil circumstance, there’s a victim somewhere. The good news of Jesus is, anyone who desired forgiveness, healing and a new life could access it by following Jesus and learning from the Teacher. If following Jesus makes us weak because we’re incapable of living a good life on our own, then let’s choose weakness so we can be made strong.

Today, we can still access the freedom, but there is a cost to a new life and a new birth. Forgiveness has to become our nature so the evil one doesn’t have a foothold on our thought life.

Every time we refuse to forgive and we think like we used to, as a victim, we give our power away. We give the liar the legal rights to once again taint us with the lie that we cannot forgive and we cannot heal. The truth is we can forgive and we can heal and we can live free.

Unloved, worthless, forgotten, addicted, lost and victim are all labels and lies that hold us captive. But love, value, being an adopted son or daughter, beloved child of God are truths that have set millions upon millions of people free from their past. We have a life of hope, truth and love and we have the power to refuse and deny the evil one access to shape our identity or our thoughts. That is the truth regardless of the evil done against you or by you.

You no longer play in the enemy’s camp or party in the kingdom of darkness. Remember who you are because you are a child of the Kingdom of God.
